About us
PERSONAL : In my practice of aesthetic and cosmetic dentistry, I have been asked by my patients for years as to how to improve their skin complexion to highlight their beautiful smiles. As a member of the American Society for Dental Aesthetics (ASDA), I have been blessed with outstanding opportunities to design and promote healthful ways to address my patients' needs. High-definition digital imaging has allowed me to clearly see the effects of accumulating sun exposure on the face and skin of well-known celebrities. I could see premature aging, discoloration and even precursors to skin cancer appearing regularly in sun-exposed areas of the face and neck in young, beautiful people.
I experienced a turning point in 2002, after a malignant melanoma, a dangerous and highly lethal form of skin cancer, was diagnosed in the family. This experience brought home to me the importance of sun exposure to health as well as to complexion. I have since developed a passionate interest in educating the public, as well as my patients, on the health and beauty effects of cumulative sun exposure.

SMART SUN ON SUNSET : As I searched for ways to improve sun protection for my patients, friends and family, I was amazed at the difficulty of finding reliable information and helpful sun protection products. In 2003, I opened a retail boutique, Smart Sun On Sunset, in Houston, Texas, to address this need. I wanted concerned individuals to be able to easily obtain cool and breathable sun-protective clothing as well as pharmaceutical-grade sun protective cosmetics.

GENERAL SUN PROTECTION INFORMATION: Many authorities believe that cumulative sun damage may cause up to 80% of the skin damage seen today. Effective sun protective products may possibly reverse or lessen the skin damage induced by sun exposure. For those seeking a more youthful appearance, lessening of sun exposure can make a significant difference. Sun protective strategies are strongly recommended for those with a history of malignant melanoma, immume suppression from drugs or chemotherapy, and other genetic or skin conditions known to predispose to damage from the ultraviolet (UV) radiation in sunlight. All persons, to some extent, are susceptible to sun-related skin injury; we note that deaths from skin cancer deaths are high for African-American, Latino, and Asian populations as well as for Caucasians. For expert advice, we recommend consulting with a dermatologist or medical practitioner, for individualized recommendations as to limiting sun exposure. We also recommend that total body skin cancer screenings be considered as an important part of an effective health maintenance program.
As most people require some degree of protection from the sun, we invite you to browse our web site and choose from among our many options for sun protective products.
